Florida Humane Society Holds Special Holiday Bone Drive to Help Spread Joy to Pets
It’s the most wonderful time of the year—and what better way to spread holiday cheer than gifting bones to shelter dogs? In an effort to help comfort the dogs and alleviate some of the stress of being in the shelter, the Humane Society of Broward County is hosting a holiday bone drive to help cheer up their shelter dogs.
These dogs don’t have much to do all day in their kennels, so it definitely brightens up their day when they get a special bone. The humane society listed a few different varieties of bones that would be good for people to send into the shelter.
Each of the dogs looked so excited to be getting their special treats hand delivered. It must be the highlight of their day to get a treat!

The Dangers of Rawhide
On the instructions about the dog bones, the shelter makes it very clear to not send rawhide bones to the dogs. This is because rawhide can be very dangerous to a dog’s health.
The rawhide never digests fully, so it can eventually cause an impaction in your dog’s stomach or intestines. These chews are never a good idea!
As an alternative to rawhide, there are plenty of non-rawhide chews out there that will satisfy your dog. There are even treats that are marketed as “no-hide.” These are a great pick to avoid stomach upset in your dog.
The Benefits of Chewing for Dogs
Chewing helps give dogs something to focus on. By chewing, the dog is working out his brain. This mentally-stimulating activity helps keep their mind sharp and your shoes out of their mouth.
When a dog needs to let off some steam, they will turn to chewing household items if they don’t have a chew toy to play with. That’s why it’s a great idea to always provide a chew toy for your dog. If not, you’ll have to end up paying a pretty penny to replace household items that get destroyed.
