Florida duo drives from Jacksonville to Key West in toy cars

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Two Florida women made quite the (little) trip while hoping to set a big record last week.

The City of Key West shared that the 29-year-olds made a 504-mile trip across the state of Florida in motorized toy cars.

YouTuber Cassie Aran and Lauren Lee documented their 2-month adventure of riding in the toy cars every single day until making it to the southernmost point in Florida.

Before they began their journey, the friends had to submit their request to the Guinness World Records to attempt the record for the longest distance traveled by a toy car. The approval took months so a rule book could be compiled to ensure no cheating, according to Aran.

Guinness supplied the women with a log book with a daily checklist, so they could track their journey which included all stops, their mileage, and witness signatures from hotel staff. They were also given a witness book and told to take dated pictures throughout their trip.

Each toy car was equipped with 12 batteries, each one lasting just over a mile, and six chargers.

The two began their trip at the Friendship Fountain in Jacksonville, the perfect spot since they have been best friends since Kindergarten, Aran said in a YouTube video.

Over the course of nearly 60 days, the women traveled an average of 10 miles a day, as the toy cars only traveled about 5-10 mph.

On May 4, the pair reached their destination in Key West, welcomed by a group of supporters including Commissioner Clayton Lopez and City Manager Al Childress.

WFLA.com has reached out to Guinness World Records to confirm the validity of the record but hasn’t received a response.
