Florida Dog Uncovers Unexploded Bomb While Digging in Yard

A Jacksonville, Florida man was enjoying a nice day playing with his dog named Baby in his yard when Baby dug up something completely unexpected.

This pup didn't find a bone or a any buried treasure, but a decades old unexploded military weapon.

Action news Jacksonville reports, "Mathew Sims says when he picked up the military munition, he quickly realized what it was that he was holding in his hands and slowly put it back where it was."  I would have probably nope'd my way on out of there.

Oh my gosh that must have been terrifying!

According to the police report, Sims dog dug it up and it was decades old due to the amount of decay on the object. The bomb squad was called and authorities began evacuating residents from the area before removing the munition. No accidents were reported and we are sure the Sims family slept better knowing this was out of their yard.

Other Unfortunate Things Dogs Have Discovered

Even though an unexploded bomb is something no one wants to discover in their yard, dogs have dug up far worse things.

In February in St. John's County, Florida, a dog dug up a skeleton in a wooded area behind his owner's home.

In January a husky named Kobe relentlessly dug up his yard in Philadelphia until his owner realized that Kobe was trying to tell them something, and that something was that there was a dangerous gas leak in the neighborhood.

In October of 2023 a family in Russia assumed their beloved dog had died. They buried the poor pup only to have him dig his way out of his own grave and return home.

In May a Cavapoo in Scotland spent 60 hours stuck in a hole that he had dug himself into! This poor pup dug himself out of the hole after spending three days with no food and water.

In July of 2022 a dog in North Charleston, South Carolina dug up what appeared to be an unexploded ordnance in a backyard. The U.S. Air Force took possession of the ordnance.

My own dog has never dug up anything, except his own toys and bones he loves to bury in his dog bed and blankets. I should either be really happy about his or really concerned there's all sorts of random stuff in my yard that I don't even know about thanks to my dog and his horrible digging skills!
