Flock Food Truck Park returns to Alton with 2 permanent trucks

ALTON, Ill. – A food truck park is returning for their third season this weekend in Alton, IL, and they have some new additions.

This year, two new permanent food trucks, Byrdie’s and the Space Shuttle Café, will join the Flock Food Truck Park located in the heart of the town.

“This is a great outdoor community space. We’re right here, off the river…we’re just perfectly located here in Alton,” Laura Windisch, general manager of Flock, Byrdies, and the Space Shuttle Café, said. “Once all that produce starts coming in season, we’ll be really focused on working with those farms.”

The Space Shuttle Café is bringing some unique flair to the park.

“One of the things we started out with was bringing the Space Shuttle out here. It’s a great way to draw attention to this food truck park. The shuttle has a great history and you know, for kids (and) anybody interested, this is a great thing you know you can do in the afternoon,” Lasse Sorensen, the host of Food is Love, said.

The food truck park and their partnership with Food is Love stand as a great addition to the community, bringing people together and helping with food insecurity.

“I see the people here and we get to chat about what’s happening and different things going on around town and this is kind of like that local gathering place where we all come together,” Windisch said.

They couldn’t ask for more beautiful weather for their opening weekend.

“Tomorrow, it looks like the weather is going to be really good. It’ll be in the 80s. And so I think that we’re going to have a lot of people coming out tomorrow. So, tomorrow is really where we’re going to kick it into gear,” Sorensen said.
