Firefighters Save Puppy From Hot Car Before Adopting Him as Their Support Dog

As much as I'd love to think that every puppy is immediately adopted into a perfect home as soon as their weaned from their mother, I know just how many dogs end up in shelters, on the streets, or in undeserving homes. Fortunately, many of those dogs are rescued, just like one mixed-breed puppy who was saved from a hot car in Connecticut.

An East Haven Fire Department team rescued the 6-month-old puppy shortly before the dog's owner surrendered him to the local humane society. The car had reached a blistering 122 degrees Fahrenheit, ABC reported on September 4, but the Boxer-Dachshund-Beagle pup was doing just fine after rescue.

Naturally, he charmed his rescuers, too! He has a whole new lease on life with his new family and job, and it's all thanks to the firefighters who saved him.

Good boy, Rigs! Rescue stories like his always make me feel so warm and fuzzy inside because I know he's making his new owners just as happy as they make him. Most importantly, this little dog is safe from harm and carelessness! Any person who would leave a dog in a car on a hot day doesn't deserve to have a dog, anyway.

As I can see from the pictures in ABC's video, Rigs is already making lots of people smile with his position as the fire department's support dog. He was getting lots of love from the students who were visiting the fire station, so we can only imagine the bond he has with the firefighters he sees every day.

Even if he's not an official Emotional Support Animal (yet) there's no question how much comfort and levity he's bringing to the firefighters. This is so important with a job as stressful as theirs, so it really is a win-win!
