Max Thieriot as Bode in 'Fire Country'

This news is coming in hot: CBS has renewed its hit firefighter drama Fire Country for Season 3, the network announced Tuesday.

The action-packed soap, which is currently airing Season 2, stars Max Thieriot as Bode Leone, a convict who returns to his Northern California hometown to serve as a firefighter in order to seek redemption and shave time off his sentence as part of Cal Fire's Conservation Camp Program. Thieriot created the show with Tony Phelan and Joan Rater.

In Season 2, Fire Country is averaging 9.21 million weekly viewers across broadcast and streaming, up 7 percent from last year, according to CBS. Those strong numbers led to the early Season 3 pickup. It was renewed along with comedy series Ghosts. The shows join Tracker as titles that CBS has already renewed for the 2024-25 season.

CBS is also setting up a potential Fire Country spinoff about law enforcement.

How will Fire Country Season 3 connect to the spinoff?

Fire Country's spinoff will be set up as a "backdoor pilot" in Season 2.

TV Insider reports that Episode 6 will introduce Mickey, played by Gotham star Morena Baccarin, a local sheriff's deputy. The spinoff would follow her and her team as they uphold the law in Edgewater, Calif. and its surrounding wilderness.

The as-yet-untitled spinoff has not been officially ordered, and there's a chance it might not come to fruition. But if it gets picked up, it will be the Chicago P.D. to Fire Country's Chicago Fire. This could mean crossovers of characters and storylines. It's too early to say exactly how the shows would interact, but we'll find out soon enough.

How to watch Fire Country

Fire Country Season 2 airs Friday nights at 9 p.m. ET on CBS and is available to stream on Paramount+. Season 3 will presumably air at the same time and stream in the same place.
