I’ve come to accept the fact that my thin, fine hair is here to stay. But while acceptance is the first step, I’m never going to stop searching for treatments and products to help it look its best. As a result, I’ve tried more hair-thickening products than I can remember. Most volumizing products I tried were still too heavy for my delicate mane — either they’d leave behind a greasy residue or had the total opposite effect and actually weighed my hair down. That was until I met Mara Roszak, a celebrity hairstylist with a star-studded clientele that includes Emma Stone, Zoe Saldaña, and Olivia Wilde.

Rozak introduced me to her eponymous haircare line, Rōz Hair, which included products made for every hair type — thick, thin, and everything in between. Naturally, I was hesitant to believe anyone could create a thickening product that suited my hair, but after trying the Root Lift Spray, I was floored. I mean, I literally teared up a little when I saw how beautiful and healthy my hair looked post-use. I shouldn’t be surprised, though; it’s one of the products Roszak used to create Emma Stone’s 2024 Oscar look.

The aptly named volumizer is easy to work into your hair care routine — if anything, it speeds up the getting-ready process. Give your roots a few spritzes around your scalp after towel-drying your hair and applying a leave-in conditioner to your ends (I recommend the brand’s Milk Hair Serum). I’ve learned that a little bit of the spray goes a long way, which is testament of the quality of Rōz’s products. Afterward, blowdry your hair as you normally would; for extra volume, try a blow-dry brush (I use Dyson’s Airwrap round brush attachment to achieve this effect.) Not only does my hair feel more voluminous, it’s faux thickness hides any thinning patches on my head with ease.

Mushroom root extract and rice water are the spray’s hero ingredients: The former promotes both scalp and hair health, per the brand, while rice water is well known for its hair-healing properties. Board-certified dermatologist, Marisa Garshick, MD, previously explained to InStyle, “When rice water is used for hair, it is thought to help strengthen and add moisture to the hair, leaving it looking and feeling softer and smoother,” she says.

I can first-hand vouch for the efficacy of these ingredients because after using this spray, my hair feels softer and looks shinier — sans greasiness. I love that it gives my hair just the right amount of volume; subtle, but enough to make my scalp look full and patch-free. And unlike some other leave-in products, this one doesn’t build up or cause flakiness. It’s easy to feel that it’s washed out entirely after a single wash.
