Feel Good Friday: Dunn County Humane Society rummage sale

MENOMONIE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – A special fundraiser in Dunn County is not only benefiting humans, but pets too. First News at Nine’s Ellie Ulbricht explains in our Feel Good Friday story of the week.

Volunteer, Darcey Tschida, says, “It’s super fun, super fun and obviously very rewarding.”

The Dunn County Humane Society is hosting their bi-annual rummage sale this weekend. Money raised will help animals at the shelter. Shelter manager, Harvey Weidman, says it also helps the community, “So as a nonprofit, we’re always looking for creative ways to kind of engage the community in different ways, all while raising funds for the shelter and for the shelter animals,”

Organizers say over 300 people were waiting at the door before the event started, with around a thousand people expected to stop by throughout the weekend. Tschida explains, “It’s just fun to see how many people actually show up to all of our events. It’s really awesome that people are here to support the Humane Society,”

Weidman adds, “When you look around, it’s just the amount of people and the amount of items that we’re here selling that people donated from our community, it’s huge. It’s very huge,”

Wednesday was the day everything was donated, with only a few days to prepare for the weekend. Weidman explains, “Everything that’s around us has been donated and then at the end of the event, anything that is left over, we are offering a free shopping experience for some of our local nonprofits here, like Bridge to Hope and Stepping Stones and some of those other the foster closet, that kind of thing. So local nonprofits to our area, who also get to benefit from these items and at the very end, if we still have stuff leftover, then we truck it all off to places like Hope Gospel and Savers and a few other nonprofits as well.”

Weidman says this is just one of two of their annual rummage sales, with the next one being this Fall.
