Farmer Cracks Up When She Realizes Cows Think She's Their 'Babysitter'

A farmer online was cracking up after she realized that her cows had sort of done her dirty. Farmer Lacie from Hillsboro, Ohio was out in the fields with her cows recently when she realized the adults had all ditched her to watch their babies. "I think I'm the babysitter!" she joked.

Speaking from the fields where her cows were grazing, Lacie shared that she noticed something was amiss pretty quickly.

As she explained in the clip, it's not unusual for cows to have a "babysitter" watch their young. Typically this babysitter is another cow — not an adult woman.

"My cows are going over the hills grazing and they left me with their kids," she said to the camera. But don't worry, Lacie seemed confident that she had everything under control. "Yeah girls, I got it. I got Edward, I got Frederick, I got Timothy, we got Henry — Charlotte!"

"I gotta stay now," she added. "I'm in charge of the children."

If Lacie doesn't want to be the babysitter in the future she's in luck, there were plenty of people in the comments section who would take the job in a heartbeat. "I long to be trusted as a cow babysitter," wrote one person. "I would like to apply to be a cow babysitter," another commenter agreed. "WHERE WAS THIS JOB ON CAREER DAY? I want to be picked by cows to be the babysitter," a third person exclaimed. "I’m down to be a cow babysitter to be honest," chimed in someone else.

Cows and Pregnancy

Now don't be mistaken, cows are good mothers (even if they leave their babies with a human). But how long do cows carry their calves anyway? Cows have an average gestation period of about 283 days, but that number can change based on the breed of the cow and the sex of the calf.

Even age can change how long a cow mama is pregnant. Older and larger cows tend to carry their calves 10 days longer than the average. Smaller and younger cows can give birth 10 days earlier.

Once calves are born they tend to stay close to their moms. We guess these little guys were just old enough that the moms were okay with Lacie watching them. Or she must've earned enough of their trust to watch their kids while they were away. We'd consider this a huge honor. If a cow mama let us watch her calves we'd never forget it.
