Fans are rallying behind Britney Spears.

On July 7, new footage of the "Toxic" singer being slapped by NBA star Victor Wembanyama's security guard seems to confirm that she gently approached basketball player prior to the Las Vegas-based incident.

Of course, it didn't take long for Spears' devoted followers to sound off on the event, defending the hit maker's version of events.

"I feel so sorry for Britney Spears, she’s been through a lot over the years & people don’t understand that these incidents are triggering to her," one fan penned on Twitter. "What would Victor Wembanyama have lost if him & his team apologised to her? She tapped him on the shoulder & his security overreacted.

Another chimed in, "Wemby may not have done anything wrong physically, but in his summer camp interview yesterday he was adamant/confident he was grabbed from behind (likely at the prompting of his security team) — this video proves that to be false. Everyone owes Britney an apology."

A third noted, "Gotta go Team Brittany [sic] here..."

As the fan mentioned above, the footage—first obtained by TMZ—of the incident contradicts Wembanyama's claim during a press conference that Spears "grabbed me from behind—not on my shoulder."

Hours after the slap, Spears shared a statement on social media, noting that Wembanyama and his team had yet to publicly apologize for harming her, and challenged the athlete's claims that she'd grabbed him.

She wrote, "I am aware of the players [sic] statement where he mentions 'I grabbed him from behind' but I simply tapped him on the shoulder. His security then back handed me in the face without looking back, in front of a crowd. Nearly knocking me down and causing my glasses [to fall] off my face. I get swarmed by people all the time. In fact, that night, I was swarmed by a group of at least 20 fans. My security team didn't hit any of them."

Spears continued, "Physical violence is happening too much in this world. Often behind closed doors. I stand with all the victims and my heart goes out to all of you!!! I have yet to get a public apology from the player, his security or their organization. I hope they will…"

Speaking to Yahoo!, the Las Vegas Police Department confirmed that Spears filed a police report, naming Spurs director of team security Damian Smith as her alleged assailant. Law enforcement officials told the publication that "no charges will be filed against the person involved."
