Family of Golden Doodle With Narcolepsy Shares His 'Shutdown' to Educate Others About the Condition

All in all, dogs are pretty sleepy creatures! Even as healthy, well-rested adults, dogs will easily snooze over half the day away and not even think twice about it. Many dog owners worry about the mount. fo sleep their dog is getting, but there's one family who will never have to worry if their pups had enough sleep. If anything, they worry he's getting too much!

Toast is a sweet and sleepy Goldendoodle dog who deals with narcolepsy and cataplexy on a daily basis. He falls asleep or suddenly loses muscle control many times a day, but he doesn't let it stop him from leading a fun and joyful life!

In fact, he and his family regularly post on TikTok to help show others what life with canine narcolepsy is like, and their videos of his 'shutdowns' in early January have amassed millions of views. He may be a sleepy boy, but he's a very happy boy, too.

Aww--Toast is such a good boy! This Goldendoodle dog's human and canine family members are so patient with him and his 'Windows shutdowns,' which is exactly as it should be. Special needs pets are just as deserving of love and fun, after all, even if it takes a little extra effort to make it happen.

Commenters agree that Toast looks like one happy Poodle mix, even with his frequent mini-naps. Just don't call them cat naps! Whether he's romping in the snow or lounging on his dog bed, the little breaks in his day just give everyone the opportunity to see how cute he is. Because let's be honest--his naps in the middle of playtime are just too cute!

Canine Narcolepsy Is a Nervous System Disorder

While many think of narcolepsy as a canine sleep disorder, it's actually a nervous system disorder affecting nervous system and all it controls, including muscle movement. That's why Toast and other dogs with nervous system disorders can have trouble with coordination, muscle tone, and wakefulness. Normally, narcoleptic episodes will only last a few seconds to a few minutes, and that seems to be the case with Toast as well.

As this happy-go-lucky pup proves, a disability or extra challenge doesn't have to stop you or define you. He's leading a perfectly happy and healthy life, and he's making millions of people smile in the meantime! Though I'll admit, he's also making me a bit sleepy, too!
