It’s going to be a summer of retail love for the people of Montreal and beyond, when the Royalmount fashion and lifestyle destination opens in the city center in mid-August.

On Monday, Royalmount will announce that Zara, Nike, Moncler, Mango, H&M, Alo Yoga, Veronica Beard, Canada Goose, Sephora, Roche Bobois, Longchamp and Anine Bing have signed on to the project.

Last year brands including Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Tiffany & Co., Versace, Saint Laurent and Jimmy Choo, confirmed they were taking space at Royalmount, which will be the first large-scale fashion destination in the city.

As reported, Royalmount is a $7 billion, mixed-use development in central Montreal that will feature retail, offices, restaurants and entertainment, all surrounding a central park.

The development will eventually house 170 stores and 60 restaurants, with some 50 percent of brands and retail concepts set to be completely new to the Quebec, Canada, market.

Andrew Lutfy, chief executive officer of Carbonleo, the developer behind the project, believes that Royalmount is “satisfying Montrealers’ untapped desire for luxury goods, a unique lifestyle experience and elevating the moment with world-class shopping, dining, art and entertainment.

“We’ve always envisioned Royalmount as a gathering destination for everyone, a shared space for people to connect,” he added.

According to Carbonleo, the privately owned, Quebec-based real estate development and management company, Royalmount is among the first 100 percent carbon neutral, mixed-use developments in the Americas and the largest LEED Gold-certified retail project in Canada.

The first phase of Royalmount will consist of an 824,000 square feet, two-level retail and lifestyle complex. The space will also offer “experiential attractions,” and include an elevated park as well as a 1.8-hectare urban park.

When it opens, Royalmount will be accessible year-round from the De la Savane metro station via a covered skybridge.

Lutfy told WWD in an interview last year that he expects Royalmount to become “the number-one” destination in eastern Canada for retail, dining and entertainment.

“Years of thought and planning have gone into bringing the right brands to Montreal,” said Lufty, adding that the project was close to his heart.

“Montreal is my hometown, and has been historically underserved for luxury. As a point of comparison, while many of the top luxury automobile brands have their best Canadian stores here in Montreal, we find ourselves with only one freestanding luxury store in a market that should support close to 30.

“The city has enormous untapped potential, being ideally positioned and with a strong cultural identity. Events such as this coming weekend’s F1 Grand Prix have previously been the calendar moments where luxury brands have come to play in Montreal to great success. Royalmount will now be bringing that opportunity to both locals and visitors all year round,” he said.
