Exclusive: Coach Presents a Flattering Hairstyle to Show Off Statement Earrings

Jewelry is probably not the first thing you take into consideration when deciding how to wear your hair. But if you’re sporting an intricate ear cuff, oversize gold hoops, or shoulder-skimming tassel earrings, you’re going to want to show them off. And tucking your hair behind your ears like the models at Coach’s spring 2017 show does just that.

Yahoo Beauty got an exclusive first look at the hairstyle from Coach this season. Read on as Redken global creative director Guido Palau explains how to achieve this look, which beautifully showcases statement earrings.

Hair It Is: “For this show, it’s a bit of a rebel teenager girl who can cross over to being a bit boyish,” says Palau. “There’s a ’50s kind of thing to the clothes, but it’s not so obvious. So I wanted to create a young ‘gang girl’ but not from the ’50s … more modern, now, and tough. Hair with attitude”

The end result: a half-up, half-down hairstyle with a messy middle part or bangs and strands artfully tucked behind the ears. “I’m pulling two side pieces out in front of the ears to make it appear more boyish,” he says. “I also have the ears sticking out.”

#NeedItNow: Palau drenched the models’ hair with Redken Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist to make it “appear more boyish” and spritzed on Redken Forceful 23 Super Strength Hairspray to control the overall shape and side pieces.

While Palau believes there are no longer rules for doing hair, the pro recommends using a bit less of the Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist to make this runway style wearable in real life. “Just go with your gut feeling about your hair. Don’t let anyone tell you it’s wrong. I think if you wear your hair with pride, it will always work,” he says.
