Jon Hamm Says Taylor Sheridan's New Show 'Landman' Is Halfway Through Filming

The show that kicked off the Taylor Sheridan empire—Yellowstone—may be ending this year, but that doesn't mean that the ever-busy creator is taking a break. Along with his constantly growing slate of Yellowstone prequels, sequels, and spinoffs, Sheridan's ongoing deal with Paramount+ has also spawned a number of standalone shows, including the second season of the Sylvester Stallone-starring Tulsa King, the Zoe Saldana-helmed spy thriller Special Ops: Lioness, and his new podcast-inspired show, Landman.
In February, Paramount+ announced that the show officially began filming in and around Fort Worth, Texas, and it's clearly moving at quite a pace; Jon Hamm told People in mid-March that production is "already halfway through."
Hamm also shared more details on the shows and how it's a departure from some of Sheridan's previous series. "It's not actually cowboy-oriented at all," he said, "It's more in the world of oil. It's based on oil speculators and what they called landmen, which are the guys that run around and try to acquire mineral rights and land rights in the hope of speculating and finding oil."
He added, "There's a lot of back and forth, a lot of intrigue and things like that. It's Taylor Sheridan and obviously it's very well written. It's very well-researched. It's a story very well told, and I think it's an interesting take on what happens when it comes to how we get the stuff that makes our cars and our lives and our planes and everything in our modern world go."
Based off the podcast Boomtown, the West Texas-based show is set to center on "an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires that are fueling a boom so big it’s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics."

Billy Bob Thronton will star.
Back in early 2022, it was announced that Billy Bob Thornton was set to star in the series as Tommy Norris, a crisis manager for an oil company. Thornton has previously appeared in the Sheridan series 1883 as the real life gunslinger Jim Courtright.
For a long while, Thornton's casting remained the only information about the show, but now, additional casting news has been announced that will begin to suggest the shape of the show.
In addition to Thornton, Ali Larter, Michelle Randolph, and Jacob Lofland have all been added to the cast as members of the Norris family. Larter (Final Destination, Legally Blonde) will play Tommy's ex-wife Angela, while Randolph and Lofland will play the couple's children, Ainsley and Cooper. Described as Norris's "wild and strong-willed seventeen-year-old daughter," Ainsley will certainly be familiar to fans of the Sheridan-verse, as Randolph also starred as Elizabeth Dutton alongside Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford in the most recent Yellowstone prequel 1923. Lofland (Mud, the Maze Runner series) will play Cooper, "Tommy’s son, who is new to the demanding work in the oil and gas fields of west Texas," per Variety.
Shortly after the news that filming had begun in Febrary 2024, the streamer revealed that Demi Moore has also joined the cast. Moore will reportedly play a character named Cami, "wife to one of the most powerful oil men in Texas and friend of Tommy Norris," per a release.
Jon Hamm was later added to the cast as well, in the role of Monty Miller, a major player in the Texas oil industry.
When does Landman debut?
No official date has been set yet, but as of this writing, the series was slated to debut on Paramount+ in 2025.
