Since 2017, Hike Clerb has been on a mission to further integrate Black and Brown people into forms of healing through nature. Founded by Evelynn Escobar-Thomas, Hike Clerb began in Los Angeles as a means to address the lack of representation and participation of people of color in the outdoors. They are a decolonial BIWOC-led outdoor collective and 501c3 that is “reimagining an equitable and inclusive outdoors, for us by us.” The collective now helps equip Black, Indigenous, women of color with the tools, education, resources, and experiences they need to heal in nature. Their mission has extended now to partnering with popular outdoor wear brand, The North Face.

Escobar is a grantee of The North Face’s Explore Fund. The Explore Fund is an initiative created by The North Face, based in the belief that outdoor exploration will lead to changed lives and connected communities. The fund was created to remove barriers so that everyone could get outside. They collaborate with hundreds of nonprofits to support access and equity with communities of explorers. This collaboration marks the first time that an Explore Fund Council member has designed their own standalone collection with The North Face. Escobar worked alongside The North Face design team to creatively direct a collection with her own personal touches so that each piece evokes a feeling of boldly taking up space in all environments. The collection stands as an “expression of the brand’s commitment to celebrating inclusive exploration and expanding the narrative around the outdoors with community partners.”
