Eva Mendes Offers Rare Insight Into Her Family Life With Ryan Gosling

Eva Mendes is giving us a rare peek into her family life with Ryan Gosling and their two kids.

Speaking with Hoda Kotb on the Today show, the Hitch star mentioned that the pair’s daughters, Esmeralda Amada Gosling, nine, and Amada Lee Gosling, seven, have a special name for her—or the person she apparently becomes—when she puts them to bed.

“I’ll tell you something that my kid told me like, three years ago. She’s like, ‘Nighttime Mama is kind of, like, different,’ ” Mendes said, further explaining that when she’s Nighttime Mama, she focuses on getting herself and her kids to wind down from the day.

Mendes said that when she asked one of her daughters to elaborate on the thought, the little girl said, “ ‘Well, Nighttime Mama, you just have to chill your life down at night.’ I was dying because I was like, ‘I do have to chill my life down at night.’ ”

Mendes said her daughters’ nighttime routine often takes up to two hours. “You want to get all the things done and lined up so they’re in bed at that time so that you can have a life, but also so they can get their hours of sleep,” she explained.

While Mendes and her Barbie star husband used to live in Los Angeles, they’ve since moved further north, away from Hollywood, to give their kids a quieter and more normal life. A source close to the couple told People recently that the actors “didn’t want girls to grow up around other celebrity kids.”
