ELKHART — The city parks department will host a “demo day” April 28 for its new disc golf course that it will temporarily set up downtown at Lundquist-Bicentennial and Island parks.

Residents will be able to play on temporary baskets for this event from 12:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lundquist-Bicentennial Park and from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Island Park. City officials say this will only be set for for the day, while the city plans to develop a permanent course in the weeks ahead.

So, this will be a test run for the course. The parks department encourages regular disc golf players and other residents to play the course and offer feedback on its design. It will help with plans for the permanent course.

There will also be a chance to provide overall feedback about the park and ask questions of the staff and course designers. The disc golf course is one of several projects the city is working on to enhance its “quality of place initiatives” through the parks’ master plan and the mayor’s ASPIRE Initiative.

The course was designed with the help of local disc golf players and course designers from the region, seen as a way to get more people to use the parks. Officials say it was designed to preserve the use of popular park paths.
