Elephants’ Response to Their Favorite Human Coming Home Is a Must-See

If you have pets, you know how excited that they get when you come home after a long day of work or a vacation. Now imagine if your fur babies were a family of elephants coming to greet you after you'd been away for a long time and that's what the founder of Save Elephant Foundation gets to experience when she comes home to them.

The foundation shared a video on Saturday, February 10th of their founder, Saengduean Lek Chailert, greeting a herd of elephants after she'd been away for several days. They come running (literally!) to see her after she calls to them. Make sure your sound is on so that you can hear just how excited they are to see their favorite human!

This is just incredible! They were flapping their ears and trumpeting, as they surrounded her to say hello! She got right underneath them and was hugging them...I wish I had a bond like this with an elephant! Fans of @Save Elephant Foundation had a lot to say about the video and left more than 2,300 comments. @Tortellini swooned, "Oh to be loved by an elephant." @Yeo got close to 11 thousand likes for her comment, "They really said WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN? NO NOTE, BED EMPTY, YOU COULD'VE DIED"! @MacCrae pointed out, "Elephants rapidly flap their ears when greeting or bonding with other elephants. They’ve taken her in as one of their own" and @AP2000 added, "They surround her to protect her."

Elephants Can Have Real Friendships

It's a fact, elephants have feelings and display emotions, and do form friendships and bonds with each other. According to UntamedAnimals.com, elephants are one of the Top 6 animals who form real lifelong friendships. They have shown that they form strong bonds with certain herd mates, and that "some elephants show distress when separated from certain but not all herd mates." The same goes for bonding with humans as well, as demonstrated in this amazing video.

Elephants wag their ears for a number of reasons, one being to show happiness and contentment. They were all doing that when their favorite human called to them! They also trumpet to express happiness, and it's clear in this video that they are all happy. I love what she had to say about it in the caption. She points out that elephants experience love and the "pangs of separation" and that their joyous welcome home is heartwarming and inspires her to advocate for them and continue to work to protect them at all costs.

Elephants are endangered, so the work that this foundation is doing is inspiring. I'll be following along and will continue to share their efforts and success!
