El Paso Zoo's 'Quit Bugging Me' event returns to target Valentine's Day exes

Are your exes buzzing around like pesky insects? The El Paso Zoo has the perfect solution to keep them at bay this Valentine's Day.

The "Quit Bugging Me!" campaign is back and encourages people to name a cockroach after anyone bugging them and witness the sweet satisfaction of being devoured by hungry animals.

The Madagascar hissing cockroaches are ethically frozen and given to insectivores as determined by staff, the zoo website states.

From now until Feb 14, head over to the zoo's website to submit the names of those bothersome individuals. Rest assured, all names will be displayed anonymously, with only the first names making an appearance.

Donations are not required to submit a name,  but participants are encouraged to donate to the El Paso Del Norte American Association of Zookeepers Chapter. For every $1,000 donated, El Paso Zoo and Botanical Gardens Director Joe Montisano will eat a cockroach before an audience.

The feeding of the roaches will take place at 2 p.m. on Valentine's Day at the Meerkats exhibit.

Can't make it to the zoo? Tune in live on Facebook and Instagram to witness the event unfold from the comfort of your own bug-free space.

The event, first hosted by El Paso in 2019, has become a global phenomenon, with zoos worldwide replicating the spectacle, city officials said.
