Drew Barrymore, Meryl Streep

After the great success of ABC's The Golden Bachelor, which ended with bachelor Gerry Turner engaged to Theresa Nist, the network announced that a Golden Bachelorette would quickly follow, leading many to wonder who would be a good pick for the show.

On a recent episode of her talk show, The Drew Barrymore Show, host Drew Barrymore considered if there would ever be a celebrity version, endorsing the Hollywood star she thought would be perfect for it: Meryl Streep!

Barrymore discussed options with co-host Ross Mathews and guest Rachel Smith from Entertainment Tonight, with Mathews beginning by saying, "I have thoughts. What if they did, like, a celebrity version?"

Mathews was the first to pitch Streep as an option, noting that she's allegedly single, followed by Diane Keaton and Sharon Stone, saying, "There are so many hot women of that age that would be so... I would love that.”

"Start that rumor right here is all I can say!” said Barrymore, who energetically got behind the idea of Streep as the star of the upcoming dating show. Smith felt the same way, inquiring, "Meryl, is your calendar available?”

Streep is reportedly single at the moment after she confirmed in late 2023 that she and husband Don Gummer, whom she married in 1978, had been separated for "more than 6 years," living apart from one another. The news came not long after another Hollywood couple, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, announced that they had been separated since 2016 but were not planning on getting divorced.

Since then, Streep was caught up in a dating rumor with Only Murders in the Building co-star Martin Short, although it was quickly shut down. Short said on Bill Maher's Club Random podcast, “We’re not a couple. We are just very close friends." Considering all of this, it would be a great chance for Streep to find new love in a unique way if she were to star in The Golden Bachelorette.
