The Drew Barrymore Show is officially returning with season 4, and host Drew Barrymore wanted to explain her decision to come back with a direct message to her fans.

Taking to her Instagram, Barrymore wrote about her return in a lengthy statement. She started by referencing her decision in May to pull out of hosting the MTV Movie & TV Awards, noting that "it had a direct conflict with what the strike was dealing with which was studios, streamers, film, and television" and it was done in solidarity with the writers.

She then moved on to talk about her talk show. Barrymore shared that, while they finished season 3 before the strikes started, "I am also making the choice to come back for the first time in this strike for our show, that may have my name on it but this is bigger than just me."

"I own this choice," Barrymore declared.

After noting that the show complies with all of the guidelines as the strikes continue, the 48-year-old added, "Our show was built for sensitive times and has only functioned through what the real world is going through in real time. I want to be there to provide what writers do so well, which is a way to bring us together or help us make sense of the human experience."

The personal message concluded with an earnest comment, "We have navigated difficult times since we first came on air. And so I take a step forward to start season 4 once again with an astute humility."

While some were critical of Barrymore's choice, a majority thanked her for her honesty and authenticity, sharing their excitement over the upcoming season of her talk show.

"You have many employees dependent on that paycheck," one wrote. "[You're] doing what's best for all."

Damona Hoffman, who has appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show as a "Love Expert," wrote in the comments, "Thank you Drew. You always operate with the utmost integrity and empathy. We love you ❤️ see you for season 4 soon!"

"You're helping keep your staffs' rents paid and food on the table! Good for you! 👏👏👏," said another.

"Leading is hard," a third added. "Sometimes there is not an answer that pleases everyone."

The fourth season of her Daytime Emmy-nominated talk show is set to premiere on Sept. 18 via CBS.
