Dragon’s Dogma 2 a Game of Wits: Sphinx Riddle Answers

dragons-dogma-2-sphinx

Among the many monsters and villains of Dragon’s Dogma 2’s world, none is trickier than the Sphinx. This mythological creature is very real in this world, and they have some riddles for anyone bold enough to take on the challenge. This Sphix doesn’t take the challenge lightly though, as you only get one chance to answer each of its riddles, so you can’t afford a single slip-up.

We’ll tell you where to find the Sphinx, and how to tackle each one of its riddles so you can get the valuable rewards inside, as well as building up to the big final reward you get for running the creature's gauntlet and complete the A Games of Wits quest.

There are two routes to the Sphinx’s location at the Mountain Shrine. You can navigate the Misty Marshes and find the way up in the northwest corner of this hard-to-navigate area.

Alternatively, you can start from the Ancient Battleground, head up to the castle there, and climb up through the interlinking chambers inside. Once you get to the top go over the back wall to the cliff and you’ll find a small cave entrance. Follow this cave around out into an opening, and then back into another tunnel. At the end of this tunnel, turn around and head up the stairs where you’ll find the Mountain Shrine.

The Riddle of Eyes – Dragon’s Dogma 2

When you speak to the Sphinx, you can ask to hear its five riddles in any order, but note that the second time you select the option for that riddle, you will have to answer.

The Riddle of Eyes is arguably the easiest, but it’s got a devious trick. The Sphinx will open up a small dungeon and tell you to find the most valuable item inside, as there are a bunch of hidden chambers for you to stumble upon.

All of it is pointless, though, as there is a chest hidden above the door that contains the item you need to present to the Sphinx. Doing so will earn you a Wakestone as a reward, but you’ll also get to keep the Sealed Phial – an item that can trap an NPC inside it.

The Riddle of Madness – Dragon’s Dogma 2

For the Riddle of Madness, you need to present a person instead of an item. To that, simply pick them up with R2 and place them down on the platform in front of the Sphinx before speaking to her.

In this case, the Sphinx asks to see “your most beloved”. While there are a couple of characters this might apply to for you, we succeeded by presenting our main pawn to the Sphinx.

As a reward, we got a Portcrystal, which we recommend you put down nearby in case you need to return to this hard-to-reach location.

This riddle is arguably the most obtuse, but also the most satisfying to solve. The Sphinx asks you to present their “parent.”

After trying a few ideas, we discovered that there is a summonable pawn in the rift, created by Capcom, named “SphinxFather.” This pawn may appear randomly, but we found them by using the Riftstone in Harve Village. Summon this pawn to your side and then present them to the Sphinx to answer the riddle.

As a reward, you’ll get 1,200 RC.

This riddle goes against your best instincts as a player, but trust us. Here, the Sphinx asks you to give up “what you prize most.” There’s not much of a trick to this one, you simply have to hand over a valuable item – possibly the most valuable item in your inventory.

We gave away the weapon Black Matter, which had a sell-value of 10,000 gold. The Sphinx was happy with this, and to our relief, the Sphinx rewards you by giving your item back.

The Riddle of Rumination – Dragon’s Dogma 2

I sincerely hope you have a good memory for this one. Thankfully, the Sphinx gives you straightforward instructions here.

You must return to where you found your first Seeker’s Token. As your adventure was likely different from ours, we can’t point you to a specific location for this, however, we can point you to our guide of Seeker’s Token locations in Dragon’s Dogma 2 for a list of locations you can check, as maybe they will help jog your memory.

When you return there, you’ll spot a Finder’s Token in the exact location you found the Seeker’s Token. Hand it over to the Sphinx to answer this riddle and receive three Ferrystones as a reward.

You might think that after answering these five tricky riddles you’ve earned that delicious-looking golden chest that the Sphinx guards, but that’s not the case. Instead, the Sphinx flies to a new location where you’ll have more riddles to answer.

You can find the Sphinx at the Frontier Shrine on the western edge of the map. Take the path between Vermund and Battahl to the west of Checkpoint Rest Town. A short way down the path you’ll find a turn-off that takes you to the Sphinx’s new location.
