DRAGON BALL Sparking! ZERO Goku

Dragon Ball Sparking! Zero will continue the legacy of the Budokai Tenkaichi series but may not feature some of its most famous features. According to new reports based on comments from the game’s developer, Sparking! Zero may not include local split-screen multiplayer and will have an expanded story mode that includes characters and content from Dragon Ball GT.

According to a post from X/Twitter user @LaunSSJ, Jun Furutani, producer of DBSZ, has revealed several key points about the upcoming fighting game. Chief among those is the confirmation of no split-screen multiplayer. The reason for this is vague, linked to Sony and Microsoft’s policies regarding the same and a drive from both companies to sell more consoles to individual customers. Developer Spike Chunsoft is also reportedly running into issues porting the game to Xbox Series S.

An interesting thing that was brought up is the inclusion of Dragon Ball GT characters, which may come in the form of DLC. DBGT, as fans will know, was an unofficial continuation of the series post-DBZ that was not based on any manga from series creator Akira Toriyama. Most of the content from GT has since been discarded in favor of Dragon Ball Super, which is an official continuation of the series.

Fusion characters like Gogeta, Vegito, and Gotenks will also be included in the game. Characters from recent Dragon Ball movies are also being considered for the game, including Beast Gohan from Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.

In other news, Bandai Namco recently revealed new gameplay footage from Sparking! Zero. The gameplay showcases focuses on new features in the game, including faster movement and a "Revenge Counter" mechanic. Another mechanic, called "Super Perception", will allow players to anticipate enemy attacks and perform counter-attacks.

Bandai Namco also revealed eleven new characters joining the roster, which include familiar faces from Dragon Ball Super:

  • Super Trunks

  • Dyspo

  • Kakunsa

  • Master Roshi (Max Power)

  • Nappa

  • Burter

  • Toppo

  • Jeice

  • Kale (Super Saiyan Berserk)

  • Broly (Super Saiyan Full Power)

  • Hit
