Don’t miss it: Last weekend to celebrate cherry blossoms
WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Since the cherry blossom trees reached peak bloom on March 17, the District has been awash with the pale pink buds that signal springtime.
But as all good things must come to an end, this weekend marks the final celebrations of the National Cherry Blossom Festival. Here are some of the events happening to conclude the festivities – and some that are ongoing throughout the month.
62nd Annual Sakura Matsuri Japanese Street Festival hosted this weekend in DC
Thursday, April 11
Where: National Gallery of Art
When: 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Peruse the East Building after hours with music, dance performances, art-making and pop-up talks. Then, head to the Roof Terrace to enjoy art and a spectacular view.
Where: The Museum of Illusions at CityCenter DC
When: 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Cost: $37.95 per person
This unorthodox museum invites guests to explore optical illusions while enjoying Champagne-flavored cotton candy and sipping on Prosecco.
Friday, April 12
Where: Millennium Stage at The Kennedy Center
When: 6 p.m.
This Japanese dance group has been touring the world for 61 years, and they’re back in D.C. this weekend at the Kennedy Center as part of their 13th annual East Coast Tour. This combination performance of dancing and Taiko drumming is free to watch, and seating is first come first serve. Tickets may be reserved on the day-of at 4:30 p.m.
DC Emancipation Day: How to celebrate
Saturday, April 13
Where: Constitution Avenue NW, between 7th and 17th Streets
When: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
With lively entertainment acts, vibrant floats decked out with balloons and decorations, and a marching band, this annual parade is a spectacle to not be missed!
Where: Audi Field, 100 Potomac Avenue SW
When: 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
While this upcoming DC United match is named the Cherry Blossom Match, not too much will be different from a regular game. There is a discount for government employees who will receive 30% off their tickets, and a special recognition at halftime in their honor. The match will also have a cherry blossom-themed photobooth and special giveaways for fans.

When: 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Local artists from across the DMV will showcase their talents this Saturday at the Water Park. Artists include Gordan Daniels, The Experience Band & Show, Wrizzards, Broke Royals and Oh He Dead. The stage will also be open to amateurs who would like to try their hand at karaoke. The event also promises games, local food and beverage tents and giveaways.

The 62nd annual Sakura Matsuri Festival is the largest celebration of Japanese culture in the U.S. On Saturday and Sunday, everyone can explore the different aspects of Japanese culture including the arts, technology and innovation, musical performances, and small business vendors selling clothing and goods.
