Dog Donates Blood to Police K9 After Pup Was Shot in the Line of Duty

On Saturday, October 14, a sheriff's office K-9 was shot during a critical incident where deputies exchanged gunfire with a man in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

The K9 suffered serious injuries and was taken to an area veterinary hospital, but thanks to a wonderful yellow Labrador named Dwyer the K-9 is expected to make a full recovery.  .

According to the Facebook post, Fond du Lac Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt said "The other hero of the day today is Dwyer, a yellow lab owned by one of the hospital veterinary technicians. Dwyer’s blood type was a match to our deputy K9, and the vet tech and Dwyer wanted to donate his blood to help our K9 through this. The transfusion worked, and blood counts rose to levels needed to undergo this important surgery."

The pictures in the Facebook post show the deputy K9 with his tennis ball before surgery, as well as Dwyer hanging out with law enforcement members and receiving some loving from the office's K9 handler during surgery.

Facebook users are applauding both of these heroic dogs and @Lois comments, "Thanks for the update! We are continuing to pray for Iro and his family. Thanks to Dwyer for donating your blood....you are the best!" @Lisa adds, "Aww sweet boy … we are praying for you so hard .. you are a force to be reckoned with !! We got your back buddy ! You will get through this .. praying for you and your amazing handler ! Sending lots of love and prayers."

Last night, the sheriff's office posted this wonderful update:

Such a wonderful story and we are so happy this brave pup is on the mend!
