Dallas K9 Pup Hailed a Hero for Helping Save Officer's Life

In Pleasant Grove on Thursday a man shot two family members after they had an argument about loud music. The suspect fled on foot and police followed a bloody trail into the woods. Leading the search was Dallas K9 Figor who followed the suspect's scent to a bridge over a creek. The suspect fired at the officers and struck Senior Corporal Jay, hitting him in the center of his ballistic vest and his leg. Figor was shot in the chest while protecting his handler.

You can watch the press conference with Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia and the harrowing body cam footage below.

"The work of this dog that night is nothing short of heroic," said Chief Garcia. "Our canines are invaluable members of this police department and helped save his partner's life." After the shooting you can hear Senior Corporal Jay pleading with his fellow officers. "My partner's hit," Jay can be heard saying. "Let me get my dog!"

Senior Corporal Jay was treated and later released from the hospital. K9 Figor is expected to need about a month and a half of recovery and it has yet to be determined if he will return to active duty. Chief Garcia went on to commend both of these brave heroes with "Not only Senior Corporal Jay for bravely doing his job, searching for a dangerous suspect, but a K9 officer who took a bullet for his partner, and likely saved his life for working to detain a suspect while he was shot."

Here's hoping Figor heals quickly and this brave pup gets all the treats he wants!
