Dog abandoned at York County SPCA now up for adoption

YORK COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) – On Tuesday morning abc27 reported about a dog left tied to a light pole outside of the York County SPCA.

The mixed breed black-and-white Terrier, Pit Bull, who has been named “Swiss Roll” by the SPCA, was placed up for adoption on Friday.

Swiss Roll is a 43-pound male and is reportedly “very social” with humans and other dogs at the shelter according to the SPCA staff. While the York County SPCA doesn’t list an exact age, Swiss Roll is still a puppy.

Swiss Roll’s adoption fee is $275 and he is still working on crate and potty training.

The York County SPCA released a statement on the situation, stating they hope animal abandonment like this stops.

“When we see the security camera footage of Swiss Roll being tied to the light post, we see a desperate man in an impossible situation, making a heartbreaking decision,” The York County SPCA wrote in a statement. “He represents a greater challenge many of our community members face. We aim to build a relationship with our community members so that instead of tying animals to light posts, leaving them in the woods, or worse, they trust us enough to walk through our doors and speak with us about the challenges they are experiencing in keeping their companion animal.”

The SPCA also noted that their kennel is at maximum capacity and encouraged people to consider fostering an animal, noting that as a YCSPA foster all of the expenses, including medical and supplies, for an animal are covered until the pet finds a forever home.
