Doberman Found With Zip-Tie on His Snout Finds Forever Home With Officer Who Saved Him

A Doberman in South Bend, Indiana got his happy ending after he was rescued by a police officer. The dog was first spotted running around the city with a zip tie fastened around its muzzle. Thankfully Officer Stephanie Northcutt was around to save the pup from the heartbreaking situation. And now these two have cemented their bond in the bets way possible.

The dog, who has since been named Zeus, was first seen in distress last Friday, February 9. And it seems like he left a huge impression on his rescuer.

WILX reports that Northcutt gently approached Zeus that day and held him still while a stranger snipped the zip tie from his face. The encounter certainly saved Zeus from injury, but now Northcutt is changing his life for a second time.

In a post on the South Bend Police Department's Facebook page, they announced that Northcutt has decided to adopt Zeus.

"The Doberman that was found last Friday with a zip-tied snout on South Bend's south side has officially been adopted," the post reads.  "By whom, you may ask? Well... by the one who rescued him, South Bend Police Officer Stephanie Northcutt."

The post states that Northcutt Officer "knew the moment she laid eyes on the pup that he was the perfect addition to her family."

The officer said she first allowed Zeus to meet her other dogs before adopting him through South Bend Animal Resource Center (SBARC). The organization said that Zeus was doing well despite "the bad hand he was dealt."

Miraculously, this is the second dog that Northcutt has adopted after rescuing them while on patrol.

"She joked that the dispatchers at St Joseph County 9-1-1 should stop sending her to animal calls because she will soon run out of room at her house!" the post states.

Police are still investigating what led to Zeus being zip-tied, but WILX reports that the Doberman will thankfully not suffer any longterm injuries from the incident.

It's lucky that these two found each other. Albeit in the worst of circumstances. Since first sharing Zeus' rescue online, Northvutt has made some decisions about her involvement with SBARC in the future.

The police officer said she's planning on sponsoring two adoptions through SBARC "after seeing how deeply this story affected our community."

"We expect SBARC will share details about this generous offer in the near future," the post reads.

So we guess you could say that these two were fated to be together. And Zeus finally got to have his happily-ever-after.
