Diptyque's Newest Candle Collection Will Transport Your Senses to a Parisian Cafe
Paris has so much to offer: good fashion, rich history, and of course, great cafes. Oh, the things we'd do for a cafe au lait and flaky and buttery croissant right now... While a trip to the City of Light for an afternoon pick-me-up may not always be feasible for those of us living stateside (though, it should!), Diptyque is offering the next best solution for our senses: a limited-edition candle collection inspired by the decadent delights served at the Café Verlet, the oldest purveyor of coffees in Paris and the capital’s first roastery.
Available today, the Parisian Cafe collection is made up of four gourmet-themed candles based on menu items sold at the venerable landmark located on Rue Saint-Honoré in the 1st arrondissement. Featured fragrances include the Café candle, which boast notes of roasted coffee beans accented with toasted cereals; the Chantilly candle, a sweet vanilla fragrance that conjures up the image of a warm beverage topped with whipped cream; the Biscuit candle, which marries the spiciness of Café Verlet’s signature gâteaux de voyage cake with earthy notes of patchouli; and the Fruit Confits candle, which has a tangy scent with plum, sandalwood, patchouli, and balsam accents.
Making the candle collection even more special is British illustrator Clym Evernden, who brought the vessels and boxes to life with whimsical and creative drawings inspired by their namesake.
"It was a first for me to work with candles, and very special as I was creating the artwork alongside the candle scents being formulated, inspired by such an unusual coming together of both Maison's: Cafe Verlet & Diptyque," says Evernden. "In this way it felt like both the illustrations and scents were born at the same time to create a unique product."
Evernden adds, "My favorite piece is the ‘Café’ candle. I see this one as the flagship of the series, and I created the artwork for this candle and box first. It holds a special place in my memory as it represents taking the plunge into the collaboration and starting my creative journey in Paris. I love the simplicity of the scattered coffee beans I sketched for the candle glass, and the depiction of Café Verlet tucked within the Parisian scene on the box."
Individual candles from Parisian Cafe collection is available to shop on Diptyque's website now at $78 a pop. There is also a bundle made up of three scented candles priced at $135. Check out the limited edition candles below.
