Dinosaurs are returning to the Milwaukee County Zoo this summer.

At the Dinosaur Discovery exhibit, visitors will be able to get up close and personal to more than 20 life-size animatronic dinosaurs as they lurk in the foliage in the temporary exhibit space behind the zoo's small mammals building.

According to the zoo, the creatures — which are provided by Billings Productions — are scientifically accurate and can teach facts to visitors about the extinct animals while also inspiring them to get involved in animal conservation.

To that end, there will be 7 days during the run of Dinosaur Discovery when the zoo will host extra educational activities, including exploration of bones and feathers of different animals, learning to move like a dinosaur and creating imaginary animals with predator adaptations.

These special Roar & Explore days will be May 18, June 1, June 8, July 13, Aug. 10, Sept. 14 and Oct. 5.

The Dinosaur Discovery exhibit costs $4 (in addition to regular admission prices), and tickets can be purchased on site. The exhibit will be at the zoo from May 18 through Oct. 5.

Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from May 18 through May 24; 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. from May 25 through Sept. 2; and 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Sept. 3 through Oct. 5.
