Who Didn't Survive the 'FBI: International' Season 3 Premiere?

'FBI: International' Season 3, Episode 1

Office space wasn't all the Fly Team lost in the wake of the explosive attack on their headquarters. FBI: International's Season 3 premiere finally revealed the real wreckage—of the human variety, that is. Picking up precisely where the Season 2 finale left off, the episode opened with a view of the embers and rubble that once was the FBI's International Fly Team's headquarters. The damage was extraordinary, but it wasn't the building anyone fretted over.

Instead, it was the people inside. As showrunner Matt Olmstead told Parade, someone would meet their demise. "The explosion not only takes the building that houses the off-site office down but sends a huge ripple effect through the team," he said. "There ends up being a major injury—and a major loss."

Fans guessed that Special Agent Raines (Carter Redwood) would be the most likely survivor, since he was the only one outside of the building at the time of detonation, and they were right at first—but then he went back into the building to rescue his cohorts and found his leg crushed and pinned by a falling ceiling beam. In addition to breaking his leg, he also severed a femoral artery and faced the possibility of an amputation procedure to save his life. Luckily, the world's premier vascular surgeon just so happened to be one short helicopter ride away to save the day. However, his gruesome injury wasn't even the worst of it.

There were a lot of key characters trapped in the ravaged building at the time of impact, including key informant Olivia Thornton (Kristen Connelly). Though all of the International squad members—including agents Scott Forrester (Luke Kleintank), Jamie Kellett (Heida Reed), Damian Powell (Greg Hovanessian), Megan "Smitty" Garretson (Eva-Jane Willis) and Cameron Vo (Vinessa Vidotto)—were ultimately accounted for, Olivia managed to slip through and escape their clutches. Raines may have known her story of being uncuffed by Smitty to seek help for the others was bogus, but he was more worried about his colleagues than the case and let her go. That was a big mistake on two fronts.

Once the dust settled, Olivia's disappearance put the case against the dangerous transnational criminal Yusuf Sydin (Özgür Karadeniz) in serious jeopardy, so the team had to scramble to figure out what to do when she called asking for a better deal. First, they questioned her family members, and a well-placed tracking device led them to her. Unfortunately, though, a sudden drive-by shooting left her bleeding out on the side of the road before she could reunite with her husband and son.

Olivia had been deeply concerned that something like this would happen to her—she'd warned the Fly Team that her decision to inform on Sydin would put her in grave danger—and she even seemed to say goodbye to her son in a phone call. Still, the impact of her death will no doubt be immediate with regard to the case. They were able to nab her shooter, one of Sydin's bodyguards, whose testimony even flipped the boss, but the damage was still devastating to her family.

Meanwhile, the expected departure of Jamie Kellett came swifter than some might've expected. After the Fly Team miraculously remained intact in the aftermath of the inferno, she announced her decision to move back to the United States.

"I'm leaving. I'm transferring to the Washington field office. I leave tomorrow," she announced. Later, she said more proper goodbyes to her soon-to-be-former colleagues and took off, with the episode's title, "June," scrawled on her hand with a curious smile.
