'Didn't they break up months ago?' John Cena and Nikki Bella's split riles up Yahoo commenters

“All hype and staged just like WWE…”

“It was never going to work anyway.”

Another week, another torturous Hollywood breakup.

That’s right, wrestler and entertainer John Cena has split with reality star Nikki Bella for the last time. That’s according to a statement issued by Bella on Monday, which read, “After much time and soul-searching alone and together, we have decided to officially part ways.”

The dynamite duo had split in April, when Bella called off their engagement of one year and sent the two down a path toward reconciliation. This time, the call-off happened on her show, Total Bellas, on Sunday, and won’t be reversed.

“If you can learn something from your experiences, good and bad, you will live with little to no regret,” Cena said in a tweet the next day.

After a mature breakup like that, there’s no need for onlookers to pick sides. But Yahoo readers definitely did, leaving their thoughts in the comments section of the original Entertainment Tonight article.

Many put the blame on the Divas Champion, especially pouncing on her self-important public apology in which she acknowledged ruining “everyone’s fairy tale” and likening the couple to “Superman and Wonder Woman.”

“Did she really say Superman and Wonder Woman?” one reader left in the comments section. “She’s playing head games for attention, and the only way to win that game is not to play,” another commenter said.

Many readers gave Cena — known for his one-liners and rapper persona on WWE, his part in Amy Schumer’s Trainwreck, and his generosity with the Make-a-Wish Foundation — advice and credit for his honesty throughout their six-year relationship (read: he never wanted children or a marriage).

“John Cena, focus on your movies, wrestling career, and life after wrestling,” one commenter said.

“If you have to work that hard on a relationship and you are not even married yet, it’s not worth it,” another reader left, referring to the couple’s constantly fluctuating relationship status. Several commenters concurred: “They don’t love each other. True love would put aside a career.”

Other commenters left their supportive marks for Cena on Twitter:

Although most commenters agreed that Bella “needs to move on,” not all put her in the wrong.

“[Cena] wants her for her body and status in the WWE,” one commenter said, “and she wants a man that will stand with her in life’s journey, and Cena is not that man.”

What do you think? As one commenter asked: Will John “ever find anybody to love him like Bella did”?
