The weather is warming up, and one surprising dessert trend will be keeping everyone cool this summer.

According to the Pinterest Summer Trends Report, the upcoming season will see lots of bold and inventive twists on everything from summer foods to how we gather with friends.

And lovers of sweet treats have a new ingredient to incorporate: mangos.

Searches for “fun things to cook” and “summer special recipes” have increased by 1,060% and 135%, respectively, but mangos have stood out among the rest.

Pinterest predicts that the mango float will be the dessert of the summer, with searches for it on the platform having increased a whopping 3,700%.

If you haven’t heard of the mango float, it’s not what you would typically assume is a float, which is a scoop of ice cream with soda.

A mango float is a Filipino icebox cake dessert with layers of ladyfingers or graham crackers, whipped cream, sweetened condensed milk and mangos.

With mangos in season between May and September, it’s no surprise that people are searching for recipes with the juicy, refreshing fruit.

Searches on Pinterest for mango sago — a pudding from Hong Kong — increased by 260%, as did mango chia seed pudding by 210%, mango jelly by 170% and mango crepe by 180%.

In a not-so-shocking trend, avocados continue to be popular, with more people trying to find “ways to eat avocado” (+120%).

Specifically, people are looking at avocado bread (+360%), avocado dessert (+180%), avocado shake (+130%), avocado ice cream (+125%) and avocado fries (+110%).

Sourdough had a big moment during the COVID-19 pandemic — and it’s making a comeback this summer.

People are searching for experiments to make sourdough bagels (+300%), chocolate sourdough (+270%), sourdough tortillas (+200%), sourdough croutons (+200%) and cinnamon raisin sourdough bread (+200%).

And even though the hottest months are upon us, Pinterest predicts people will opt for hot tea instead of coffee, with searches increasing by 550% for Persian tea and 170% for matcha milk tea.

People are also turning to Pinterest to plan their summer entertaining and social activities — which mainly include tea parties and themed dinner gatherings.

Searches for “dinner party” have increased more than 6,000%, and it appears that the return of the Netflix hit “Bridgerton” has sparked interest in parties centered around high tea.

“Bridgerton tea party” searches in particular have spiked by 430%, followed by high tea food ideas (+177%), afternoon tea party ideas (+165%) and floral tea party (+160%).

Of the 6,000% increase in “dinner party” searches, there was a 44% increase for “themed dinner party” ideas, with themes including fairy (+150%), Greek (+75%), Chinese (+70%), coastal (+70%) and vintage (+30%).

Aside from food and beverage trends, “summer 2024 is all about breaking free from convention and letting personal style shine,” according to the Pinterest report.

People are all about maximalist summer fashion, embracing “tomboy femme,” rocker chic, “alt baddie,” corp-core, Y3k aesthetic and “Make it Big” jewelry trends, such as “eclectic” baubles.

Searches for “dopamine decor” increased 280%, with big trends leaning toward “Nancy Meyers core” and “eclectic vintage.” Additionally, searches for “90s makeup look” and “2000s makeup” increased 270% and 580%, respectively.
