Demi Lovato just dropped some major bob-spo.

On April 26, the 31-year-old pop star shared two photos of their new haircut by celebrity stylist Amber Maynard, demonstrating just how versatile a short, choppy bob can truly be. In the first snap, Lovato wore their hair pushed back and tucked behind their ears, almost like a mullet pixie cut.

In the next shot, however, Lovato cosigned the flicked-out bob for a daintier look, opting for a side part in a subtle nod to the Camp Rock star’s signature look from 2009. (It was never a phase!) In this pic, you can tell that Lovato’s bob features choppy, purposefully uneven ends, keeping the look from appearing too smooth or polished.

Lovato wore the same black T-shirt and glowy makeup look in both pics, proving how much of a difference a simple part and a touch of styling product can make. As for makeup, Lovato went for rosy cheeks, a slightly flicked eyeliner wing, and what appears to be a fair amount of highlight on their nose. Rare Beauty’s Positive Light Liquid Luminizer is always a great option for this effect.

It also seems Lovato has lightened their hair to a brunette shade with some cinnamon highlights, as the pop star has largely been sporting a jet black shoulder-length bob since late February.

Lovato has also been playing around with extensions for red-carpet events, arriving at the 2024 Vanity Fair Oscar party in March with wavy, waist-length locks.

Clearly, Demi Lovato isn’t interested in a one-note hairstyle—and their new chin-length bob is anything but boring. However, they’ll probably be making multiple trips to Maynard if they want to keep that precise length. “Having a bob requires some maintenance,” celebrity hairstylist Dimitris Giannetos previously told Glamour. “This means getting regular haircuts and/or dusting off your ends every four to six weeks to keep the look fresh.”

On the flip side, Lovato has probably saved precious time getting ready in the morning. As Giannetos pointed out, “Your hair is already cut into the style, so all you have to do is wash, blow-dry, and style as desired.”
