The Death Stranding movie has been confirmed by Hideo Kojima, but there’s one question everyone wants to know: who will star in the lead role?

Norman Reedus plays Sam Porter Bridges in the 2020 video game, which A24 is currently adapting into a live-action movie. There’s no word yet on whether Reedus will reprise his role, however, so I have put together a list of the most likely candidates.

The following six actors have all been strongly linked to the role, by me.

6 Actors who could star in Death Stranding

AMC

Who better than to play the Norman Reedus character than Norman Reedus? It would be deranged to make another actor say they’re Norman Reedus and do all of the press conferences when they don’t even look like him.

We just wouldn’t buy it. What if the real Norman Reedus walked into the room? It would be so awkward. Either cast the actual Norman Reedus in the Norman Reedus role or at the very least get someone to dress as him and imitate all his mannerisms and greet everyone by saying, “It’s me, Norman Reedus.”

Marvel

It sounds unlikely but casting an all-knowing AI entity in the role might work.

Not only would the all-knowing AI entity deliver a perfect acting performance derived from millions of previous acting performances scraped from across the history of film, but A24 could also get it to do the poster by giving it creative prompts such as ‘good film poster’ and ‘really nice film poster, not horrible to look at’. Plus, after the film we can turn to the all-knowing AI entity to run our societies. Salary negotiations may be difficult.

FX

Danny Devito is currently the booky’s favourite to play Sam Porter Bridges in Death Stranding. And by ‘booky’ I mean the booky that I use to draft all of my articles on before I type them up on this website.

So next time you hear someone refer to something as ‘the booky’s favorite’, they are referring to me and the endless rankings I’m writing down in my booky. I love my booky and write in it every day, but I am running out of pages. I don’t know what will happen on the day I reach the last pagey.

Hideo Kojima

The creator of Death Stranding should also star in its movie adaptation so he can direct himself. If he’s late to set he can shout at himself in front of the crew to send a message to himself that his actions won’t be tolerated by himself.

By setting up an elaborate series of mirrors, he can even watch his performance back on the monitor WHILE he’s giving the performance. It would be a pioneering display of realtime self-directing that would only need a slight bit of CGI work to move his eyes back to the right place.

Paramount Pictures

It’s like the old saying goes, ‘19 actors are better than one’. Sam Porter Bridges should be played by 19 actors combining their acting talent into one tour de force performance.

And I don’t mean like in that Bob Dylan movie where a bunch of people took turns pretending to be Bob Dylan. They need to say all of their lines at the same time. No other film would be able to match the sheer power of 19 co-leads. Except maybe a film with 20 co-leads. But that would be ludicrous.

Warner Bros.

The obvious choice. No one is better placed to play a post-apocalyptic courier in a near-future wasteland than Cary Grant. I don’t even need to explain this one. The one potential snag is that Cary Grant died in 1986, but with clever use of editing they can splice together footage of him from films like North by Northwest, His Girl Friday, and Houseboat.

They may have to alter the entire storyline and concept of the movie but that’s fine. I’m done with this article now thanks for reading. I’ve just seen a fox in my garden.
