I’ve had bangs on and off again for years—and I credit Dakota Johnson for being my top hair inspiration (next to Taylor Swift, that is). But back to Johnson, she’s not only a key person on my beauty vision board, but her style game is also on point.

Spotted on the set of the romantic comedy Materialists, Johnson donned a totally chic ensemble—essentially a variation of what I wear on a daily basis, consisting of a versatile button-up shirt and oversized shoulder bag. But the magic happened on the lower half of her uniform, showing off a nostalgic pair of jeans I honestly forgot about.

Johnson’s bootcut denim threw it back to my high school days, boasting a light-washed hue that’s ideal for spring and summer. If you’ve been sleeping on bootcut pants, it’s time to revive them. They’re some of the most flattering pants you can own since they’re fitted throughout the hips and thighs, while featuring a leg-lengthening flare.

Johnson’s bottoms cascaded to the floor and dragged behind her, but that’s customizable depending on your height and desired fit. Either way, style your comeback jeans with a bodysuit or off-the-shoulder blouse for a sleek finish. I love pairing my bootcut denim with kitten heels for an added boost of height, though sneakers are just as good—and Johnson proved it.

The actress slipped on a pair of comfortable Nike sneakers that included a grippy bottom and crawling toe cap. Her footwear nods to popular model-approved styles, leaning into the chunky dad look that fashion has come to know and love. The sneaker style is super practical, too, given that it can be elevated by the above jeans or dressed down with workout shorts, oversized T-shirts, and maxi skirts.

Johnson is seemingly wearing a variation of the Waffle Debut Vintage Sneaker, though Reebok, Steve Madden, and New Balance offer great lookalikes. The key is finding a style that includes the three staple elements: a grooved sole, lace-up design, and front toe detail. And, of course, they must be comfy!
