Crabtree mall in Raleigh adding 2 stores selling men’s clothing, lifestyle goods

A men’s clothing store and a retailer offering a range of affordable home and lifestyle products are coming to Crabtree Valley Mall.

Chubbies will open at the Raleigh shopping center in June. This will be the first North Carolina store for the brand, which is known for its short-shorts.

“The addition of the new Chubbies lifestyle store at Crabtree further enhances our dynamic retail merchandise mix, the largest in the Southeast with over 200 stores and restaurants,” Debora Overholt, the general manager at Crabtree, said in a news release.

Miniso, founded in China in 2013, already has locations in North Carolina — at Carolina Place shopping center in Pineville and at Concord Mills shopping center in Concord — but this is the first in the Triangle. The addition of the Raleigh store continues the company’s pattern of growth across the United States.

According to a press release from earlier in May, the company added stores in more than 10 new states in 2023, bringing the total to over 100 stores in 27 states. Globally, Miniso has about 6,400 locations, and by the end of this year, the company hopes to increase its presence by 550-650 new stores.

The News & Observer reached out to Miniso via email and social media Monday afternoon and Tuesday for more information, but the retailer has yet to respond. A marketing representative for Crabtree said a news release with details about Miniso’s new location “will be distributed soon.”

What to expect at Chubbies and Miniso

Apparel and accessories for men and boys will be sold at the Crabtree Chubbies store. That includes the famous short-shorts, with 4-inch and 5.5-inch inseams, along with swim trunks, polos, pants and shirts.

The Raleigh location will feature the brand’s updated design, with white and neutral tones that make the brightly colored products pop.

To celebrate the grand opening, Chubbies will have entertainment, in-store promotions and chances to get free gear.

Miniso, founded by Jack Ye, operates under the slogan “Life is for fun.” It sells household items, beauty products, fashion accessories, food and more, often collaborating with brands such as Barbie, Disney and Minions to create products.

“With its core customer base being the younger generation, Miniso consistently focuses on understanding their consumption trends and demands to provide products that foster emotional connections and differentiation,” according to the press release.
