According to Scissortail Park, Mitchell Burns loved shade trees and parks. The Burns family says the event is a way to honor his legacy by establishing “Mitchell’s Shade”, a community program designed to bring people together to celebrate life, honor a loved one, and put a bit of color and oxygen back into our world through a tree giveaway.

“Trees are so important to the landscape of our community,” said Mitchell’s parents Melanie and John Burns. “We are excited that people will be able to give them even more meaning and purpose.”

Maureen Heffernan, CEO of Scissortail Park Foundation and Myriad Gardens Foundation says, “It is our tremendous honor that the Burns family has chosen Scissortail Park to remember their beloved son, Mitchell,”. “As I learn more about this extraordinary young man who achieved so much in his all too short life, I am proud to partner with his family in keeping his memory alive by adding more trees across the community he called home.”

Attendees can expect at the community tree giveaway, approximately 700 three-gallon trees and 300 18-inch seedlings will be provided to the public to take home and plant in honor of a loved one and to spread comfort, joy, inspiration, and a canopy of shade for years to come for everyone.
