CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — For Tuesday’s Community Spotlight, Stephanie Robinson from Ameren Illinois shared some tips for homeowners to help lower their energy bills in time for spring weather.

A large portion of energy bills and consumption comes from home heating and cooling systems. Spring is a good time to shut off those systems and let natural air into your home, Robinson said. She also recommends installing smart thermostats to help manage energy costs and usage, as the advanced tech can set schedules and be controlled via smartphone.

As daylight hours get longer, opportunities to reduce the electricity bill will also become more abundant. One way is through your porch lights. Robinson suggests installing solar porch lights for a lighter wallet.

Ameren Illinois is providing a special offer to help alleviate those springtime energy costs. Through June 30, their GE Bundle, usually priced at $120, will be free for customers. The bundle includes a GE Cync Smart Thermostat and Cync Smart Lightbulb.
