Ma and Pa Kettle Days Mud Bog fundraiser, noon, Kettle River Veterans Building. The nonprofit Ma and Pa Kettle Days Mug Bog Committee is hosting a silent auction to raise money to bring back the Mud Bog in the original pit Aug. 10. The committee's goal is to raise $5,000 for event costs like bathrooms, bleacher rental, garbage, first responders, prize money and environmental precautions around the pit. Civil War veteran ceremony, 3 p.m. Atkinson Community Cemetery, 2589 County Road 144, Carlton. Pvt. Charles "Carl" B. Oswell, the last Civil War Union soldier buried in Carlton County, will be honored with a ceremony. The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Carlton County Historical Society and the Cloquet Combined Veterans Honor Guard will conduct the ceremony. The public is encouraged to wear Civil War-era attire. Descendants of Oswell are invited to attend.
