Community Baby Shower to take place Thursday

Apr. 20—Community members can provide a major boost to local mothers, babies and families by donating to the Women's Enrichment Center's annual Community Baby Shower, said Heather Tate, marketing and development coordinator for the center.

The event takes place Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the center's headquarters at 109 W. Gordon St. Tate said people can come by and drop off items or, if they have the time, tour the center and find out more about its work.

The center needs diapers, new clothes for newborns and infants, diaper bags, baby wipes, strollers, car seats, breast pumps and infant carriers. It is also looking for "gently-used" baby furniture and video monitors. These will be used to restock the center's Baby Boutique.

For the past 16 years the center has offered pregnancy testing and consultation as well as parenting classes for men and women before and after pregnancy, all free and confidential. Those who participate in the center's parenting classes earn points they can use to shop in the Baby Boutique.

"It's all based on the points they earn," said Tate. "We don't charge them any money."

Those unsure about what to bring can shop for the baby shower online through Walmart Spark Good. They can either pick the items up and bring them or have them delivered to the Women's Enrichment Center.

They can also make monetary donations. To find out more about how to donate online or through Walmart Spark Good go to https://www.wecnorthga.org/events.
