Daniel Tosh, Taylor Swift

Everyone has an opinion about Taylor Swift—whether it's her music, fashion or relationship with Travis Kelce. The latest celebrity to weigh in on Time's Person of the Year 2023 is Daniel Tosh. And in doing so, the comedian shared what "bothers" him about the "Cruel Summer" singer.

During a Dec. 9, 2023, episode of his Tosh Show podcast, Tosh spoke with actor Luke Macfarlane about starring in Hallmark movies when, suddenly, the conversation took a left turn.

"Here's what bothers me about Taylor Swift. I love everything about her—her business savvy, all of it. I think she's a genius," Tosh prefaced his statement before revealing his hang-up. "...But what I wanted to say was her song, that one song where she goes, 'We can leave the Christmas lights up 'til January.' I'm like, that's only [F-bomb]ing five days after Christmas."

Of course, he's referencing Swift's 2019 song, "Lover," the first track of seventh studio album of the same name.

Tosh continued: "That's not a big deal. Five days after Christmas is not worthy of a lyric. Can you believe it? They left their Christmas lights up until Jan. 2?"

In a clip of the interview shared via TikTok, Swifties came to the pop star's rescue, with one fan pointing out, "The lyric flew right over his head 🙃."

Another TikTok user commented, "That's the point! Be so comfortable together that even ordinary moments in life feel exceptional."

Someone else wrote, "She loves the mundane things about love."

In 2019, Swift sat down with The New York Times to dissect the process of writing "Lover." She explained that one of the lyrics she changed was the line about Christmas lights—which was originally "'til April" instead of January.

"It's not about, like, that being a crazy thing. It's about how mundane it is," Swift said. "It's about, like, 'We could put a rug over there. We could to wallpaper or we could do paint.'"

She added: "When young adults go from living in their family to then combining their life with someone else, that's actually like the most profound thing."
