Columbus Girl Scouts honored for earning 2024 Gold Award

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Three girl scouts in the Chattahoochee Valley earned one of the highest scout honors this year.

Sadie Jewell, Morgan Jones and Stacie Smith all received the “Gold Award” for taking action in their local communities. The three were honored at a ceremony on Saturday, May 4 at 2 p.m. in St. John AME Church.

Other honorees included younger girl scouts who achieved silver or bronze awards, as well as volunteer who earned council and national level awards.

The Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia says the gold award demonstrates “the breadth of issues American teens feel are most prevalent in society today.”

Here’s what this year’s honorees chose to focus on:

Morgan Jones of Troup 50387 honed in on foster care and adoption. Jones held a campaign for potential foster parents, as well as kids aging in and out of the system.

Sadie Jewell with Troup 50196 chose to focus her project on assistance in times of crisis. Deemed “ABCs of Disaster Aid Relief,” Jewell provided info on how the community can connect with Disaster Aid Relief.

For Stacie Smith of Troop 50263, the project aimed to focus on art opportunities for middle school students. Smith gathered information on art competitions, art camps, and art scholarships to present to students in “Project Palette.”

The Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia says Gold Award Girl Scouts are gaining tangible skills while proving themselves to be leaders.
