Cockatoo Gently Wakes up Mom in the Sweetest Possible Way

Waking up to an alarm clock in the morning is something that most of us dread, but what if your wakeup call came from your favorite pet? Wendy Albright, also known as The Parrot Lady, shared a clip at the beginning of May showing us how her pet cockatoo Sweet Pea wakes her up in the morning, and it's adorable!

The video starts with the Sweet Pea already on the bed that Wendy is sleeping in. The parrot walks over and starts climbing on top of her mom. Mom starts rustling around, and soon the bird is on top of her head, leaning over to kiss her and say good morning!

The cockatoo was so gentle! I can't imagine waking up to such a lovely alarm clock. And Wendy woke up smiling so she must enjoy the wake up! Commenter @Joni Jay shared, "Mine has her own blankie and demands Mama Time in the bed while I read—nightly. She’s a tyrant!" @Lynn Carol Feinn laughed, "At least she didn't squeak directly in your ear, LOL!" @Cyndy's Sweets pointed out, "Personal space, nahhh!"

Ways Cockatoos Show Affection

Sweet Pea is very friendly and is very social. She's also a feisty cockatoo and shows her furry brothers and sisters whose boss by barking at them. She may not talk as well as some other parrots, but she makes other kinds of noises and mimics things that she hears regularly. My parents have had an Amazon parrot since I was a kid, he's 45 years old now. He barks like a dog, meows like a cat, rings like a phone, and so much more. He also would chase us around when he was out of his cage, something Sweet Pea does too; it's like having another child in the house!

It's not surprising that Sweet Pea is so gentle or that she wants to cuddle. Believe it or not, cockatoos are one of the most affectionate pets around! Another Pet Helpful article noted that cockatoos "thrive on the contact, love, and affection that they receive from their owners."

The article goes on to say, "They are widely known to be playful, affectionate, and cuddly pets that will develop a love and bond with their owner. They are also the perfect pet for anyone who plans to spend a lot of time with these animals sharing mutual affection. And since cockatoos can live anywhere from 40–80 years depending on the species, you can potentially end up with a lifelong friend."

How do you know if your cockatoo has bonded with you? They'll definitely show it! They do so by snuggling, kissing, demanding attention, following your movements, and letting you handle them. I know from Wendy's other videos that Sweet Pea does all of these things. I can't wait to see what she does next!
