Coach’s New Campaign Star Is... Lady Gaga’s Dog

‘Memba back in May when Lady Gaga-slash-her dog announced that the French bulldog would soon be starring in a fashion campaign?

“Keep a look out for a special announcement,” Asia Kinney, the dog, woofed at the time. “I’m the star of a new campaign for a major luxury fashion brand. You never know, I could grace the pages of Italian Vogue.”

Now, nearly a month later, we’ve finally got the deets: Asia is officially the new face (and fur) of Coach! Called “Coach Pups,” the campaign — shot by legendary fashion photog Steven Meisel — sees Miss Kinney looking glam as she models a silver choker (collar?) and the label’s purple Edie bag.

We’ve always envied the style of French women — but a French bulldog? Now that’s something new.

Best of all? Her mom is super supportive of Asia’s burgeoning modeling career. "I am so proud of Miss Asia! She’s a natural in front of the camera,“ Gaga said. "I really love getting to watch my best friend be a star.” (Gaga was still mum, however, on that alleged doggie clothing line Asia was said to be “designing.”)

According to Coach’s creative director Stuart Vevers, the shoot was inspired by another famous pooch: Eddie, the Jack Russell terrier from the TV series Frasier.

“I’ve never had so much fun on a shoot,” said Vevers. “The combination of Mr. Meisel and the pups was an extraordinary, surreal, special moment. We wanted to create playful images that make you smile. We were inspired by some images from the Coach archive, which featured Eddie, to create something joyful, with humor and character.” Coach has also made a donation to Chicago French Bulldog Rescue in Asia’s honor.

Asia succeeds actress Chloe Grace Moretz as the face of Coach, making her the latest French bulldog to replace a celebrity in a fashion campaign. (You may recall that, in 2012, Kim Kardashian lost her deal as a Skechers spokesmodel to a tan Frenchie.) Those pups really have a certain… je ne sais quoi when it comes to fashion, non?

And this is just the beginning of Coach’s canine-friendly campaign: Ariana Grande recently shared that the brand had approached her beagle-chihuahua mix Toulouse about appearing in some ads. We hope the proposition involved some dog treats.
