CLEARWATER, Fla. (WFLA) — Clearwater Beach is one of the world’s best white-sand beaches, according to the travel experts at Travel + Leisure.

The Tampa Bay area beach made the list along with iconic international beaches in the Maldives, Italy and Scotland.

Clearwater Beach ranked 12th on the list. Kauna’oa Bay, Hawaii, the only other U.S. beach to make the list, ranked seventh.

“Americans don’t have to travel far to find a stunning beach destination,” Travel + Leisure wrote about Clearwater. “As its name implies, this spot has beautiful Gulf of Mexico waters and white, sandy shores, making it perfect for water sports and sunbathing.”
