Cillian Murphy's Lookalike Sons Make Rare Appearance on Dad's Big Day

As actor Cillian Murphy—whose first name is pronounced with a "K" sound—celebrated his big win at the 2024 Oscars, taking home the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, he had some of his biggest supporters by his side, including his teenaged sons Malachy, 18, and Aran, 16.

Murphy was spotted with a smile on his face as he walked the red carpet hand in hand with his wife Yvonne McGuinness, as their two sons, who appear to share the same dark hair and strong jaw as their father, walked behind them. The actor and his sons also matched in sleek tuxedos, while McGuinness wore an elegant off-the-shoulder black dress.

Last year, Murphy, who is usually quite private about his home life, told Rolling Stone about his sons, “They’re really good boys. We have a laugh. We don’t do ‘Dad’s Movie Night’, but they like some of my films. They say all my films are really intense.”

At the 2024 Oscars, Murphy won the prestigious acting award for playing J. Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan's film Oppenheimer, which also won Best Picture. Calling out his family in his acceptance speech, Murphy sweetly said, "Yvonne McGuinness, my partner in life, and my two boys, Malachy and Aran, who are sitting up there. I love you so much." He also thanked his parents, Brendan and Mary Murphy.

With Murphy's win, he became the first Irish-born actor to win an Oscar for Best Actor, with the 47-year-old saying on stage with a smile, "I'm a very proud Irishman standing here tonight."

Along with Oppenheimer, Murphy is known for playing Thomas Shelby in the Netflix drama Peaky Blinders and starring in sci-fi classics like Sunshine and 28 Days Later. He has also been a frequent collaborator with Nolan, appearing as Scarecrow in his Batman movie trilogy along with roles in Inception and Dunkirk.
