The recent Oscar-winner Cillian Murphy has landed another lead role at Universal. Set to be the lead in the film adaptation of Mark A. Bradley's Blood Runs Coal: The Yablonski Murders and the Battle for the United Mine Workers of America, the star is now not only attached as the protagonist but a producer as well.

The plot of the film sees the events take place in the late 1960s in the Pennsylvania coal mines. It chronicles an assassination that has immediate effects on the history of American labor unions. Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth are adapting the screenplay. The two have worked on Spectre and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, respectively and collaboratively on Edge of Tomorrow. Producing alongside Murphy are John Davis and Jordan Davis of Davis Entertainment and Alan Moloney of Big Things Films. Bradley is to executive produce.

Murphy is also set to star in the Peaky Blinders film, keeping busy after his recent Oscar win. There is no word on when this film adaptation is set to release as it is in early productions.
