The city of Cherryville is gearing up for its annual Cherry Blossom Festival.

On April 19 and 20, those visiting Cherryville will find antique cars, bounce houses and more.

Cherryville’s Cherry Blossom Festival started several decades ago as a celebration of the city known as The Big Day, according to Cherry Blossom Festival organizer Mary Beth Tackett.

The Big Day was a downtown community festival that was later rebranded to give the event a theme related to the cherry blossoms that would bloom downtown in the spring, Tackett said.

The city has carried on the tradition every year since, minus a few years that were not ideal due to COVID-19 or street-scaping.

This will be the city’s 32nd year celebrating the festival, Tackett said.

As usual, the celebration will begin with the Miss Cherry Blossom Pageant in addition to food and beverage vendors, and inflatable attractions for children from 5 - 10 p.m. Friday, April 19.

Friday night the festival will also host live music performed by Dirty Grass Soul.

From 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday, April 20, visitors can expect an antique car show, bounce houses, arts and crafts vendors, food and beverage vendors, and the YMCA Bubble Mile and 5k run.

Those interested in participating in the fun run or 5k can register by visiting gastonymca.org.

The last day to register is April 11, according to the website.

The city of Cherryville has enlisted several local vendors for the event but is still accepting vendor applications. To apply, vendors can email mbtackett@cityofcherryville.com.
