Alicia Keys may have launched new, empowered trend for 2017 by forgoing makeup in 2016. On Sunday, model Ashley Graham appeared to be glowing in a clean face on Instagram. “All smiles celebrating day one of 2017,” the gorgeous 28-year-old captioned the closeup, in which she’s propped up on the edge of a swimming pool.

And on Saturday, former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger reemerged on Instagram, after some time off of social media, to flaunt her flawless face and toned physique in a lizard-print bikini and zero cosmetics. The 38-year-old was spending time lounging on the beach in Hawaii, where she was born. She also Snapchatted her stunning natural look, with this message to fans: “Mele Kalikimaka and happy holidays everyone! Sorry been away from social media over the holidays while spending quality time home with the ohana! I’m back now! Sending so much aloha and sunshine from #hawaii'”.

According to The Daily Mail, Celebrity Big Brother star Chloe Khan went makeup-free in a Snapchat video on Sunday, writing, “Had a no makeup couple of days. Uber driver came through with the music this morning.” The 25-year-old model is usually all dolled up, so a naked face is new for her — and although her eyebrows appear to be filled in, she looks great. She even went bare-faced in a bikini-clad Instagram pic, captioning photo, “Peaceful no makeup spa retreat . Iv got that New Years vibe today and I’m sooo excited for #2017. First blank page.”

Singer Miranda Lambert got in on the act on New Year’s Eve by posting a no-makeup pic to Instagram along with a few of her favorite companions: her two dogs and a glass of wine. She captioned the collage, “Friday night lights… Perfect date night with my mutts. Homemade healthy meal, Law and Order SVU, crafts and cocktails. 2017 here we come.”

Then year 2016 definitely set the tone for going sans makeup in public — and proudly so. When Keys started her #NoMakeup Instagram movement, celebrities including Gabrielle Union, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Today co-host Tamron Hall were inspired to let their beautiful complexions shine through as well.

Even the iconic Pirelli calendar, a trade publication known for pushing the envelope and often featuring its famous models nude, climbed on board the no-makeup train this year, debuting naked-faced celebrities including Jessica Chastain, Helen Mirren, Uma Thurman, Lupita Nyong’o, and Robin Wright in its annual edition in December. Photographer Peter Lindbergh said of the theme, “In a time when women are represented in the media and everywhere else, as ambassadors of perfection and youth, I thought it was important to remind everyone that there is a different beauty, more real and truthful and not manipulated by commercial or any other interests, a beauty which speaks about individuality, courage to be yourself and your own private sensibility,” according to IndeOnline.

Keys, 35, did face criticism recently, though, when it came to light that she isn’t appearing entirely bare-faced in public. It turns out she has a no-makeup makeup artist who revealed that facials, acupuncture, and ice-rolling play a part, as does “skin tint, lip balm with tint, blush and fake eyelashes to fill in the brows,” according to Into the Gloss. “I’ll cut individual false eyelashes and use them on the eyebrow to have that realness,” the makeup artist said. A clean lifestyle also contributes to her glow.
